I hate goodbyes..

In a few hours, my brother, Marc Virtucio, is already leaving off the country to work in Singapore for two years. He’ll be getting his apprenticeship there, and two-year experience before taking up the Architectural Board Exam here in the Philippines.

I know this might sound cheesy but for sure I am going to miss him. Seeing him pack his things, and thinking that he’ll be away for two years just makes things just worse. So, how can it be be more painful tomorrow when we actually say our real goodbye to him at the airport? :( A while ago after our last dinner with him, he asked Durben if he will miss him, and Durben just said “wala ng mangungulit, wala ng maingay sa bahay”. Yes, it’s true. There will be no more in the dining area who’ll make jokes, who’ll throw punch lines, who’ll laugh so loud that it makes us laugh too.. There will be no more familiar shout in the living room Hoooyyyyyyy directed to my sister and at the very least, makes us complete.

I just remembered this.. We were going home, I was lucky it was dark.. A tear fell off my eye just thinking about all these stuffs.. :(

I know that 2 years will just be very sudden, but even so, him not being around with us at the dining table during dinner will make me feel sad. It wouldn’t be the same without him. But, I know whatever is out there in Singapore will give him one step ahead in his career. I believe that he’ll do his best no matter what. :) We love you! Kuya, ingat ka lagi dyan!

How Google Reader Changed My Way of Blog Hopping

May 26th, 2010 kenan biel 11 comments

I started blogging late September 2009. I know I’m new at this kind of thing, but I’m really thankful how Google Reader changed the way how I read blogs.

In my early Internet blog hopping habits, normally, I bookmark every home page of my favorite sites and just go again to my bookmark’s tab, then click and open again it one by one just to read my favorite sites updates, not knowing if there would be an update or not. Well, Google Reader optimize the way I read blogs. I just point my favorite sites to my Google Reader, then it automatically generates the RSS feed of the site. If the site does not provide a RSS feed, then Google will just automatically generate a feed every time the page gets updated. Isn’t it cool? :)

As you can see in my image, I could organize, by any means of classification, my subscriptions – Tech Stuff, R-18, Followed Blogs and Black hole of Time.. What I love most about this is that when something isn’t read yet, or your subscription gets updated, Google Reader lets you know. It is technically e-mails you. You can also share the updates to you subscription to your followers and they could read it. You could also ‘star’ your favorite updates so you could read it again later. You can also search keywords in the search form anything that might be in your subscriptions.

It optimizes my time and it could also let me follow/read more blogs. The best feature of Google Reader might be its keyboard shortcuts. It really cuts half of your time.

Site Recommendation: DCTP

May 26th, 2010 kenan biel No comments

DCTP means Detective Conan Translation Project. It is a fansub site where you can download, either via IRC or via Bittorrent, Detective Conan Episodes, Movies, OVAs, and Live Action.

This is for all the Detective Conan Fans, who are looking for Detective Conan Episodes, Movies, and OVA’s to be downloaded. It is a group people who subbed Detective Conan. Here is a link of there FAQ’s.

I discovered this site January of 2006. I’m a big fan of the said anime until now. I’m really glad I found this site. I have, in my archives, their full releases of 480p’s episodes, movies, OVA’s, and even the live action. I’m really thankful that there are people who do this kind of thing for the benefit of everyone. :)

Lost’s Series Finale was Epic!

May 25th, 2010 kenan biel No comments

*I’m only speaking as a very big fan of Lost, not a critic*

With all those flashbacks, I can’t help crying again for the second time – first time was when Sun and Jin died in the submarine. It has been fun, suspenseful and simply.. epic. All these years of figuring and hammering out explanations.. I just enjoyed it enormously. All those questions, all those thoughts.. just seems irrelevant at this point. I feel like it does not matter anymore. But what does matter.. is letting go.

Lost is one of the best show ever and this finale was no exception to this shows perfection. It was a devastating epic and had the best emotional punch of anything I ever watched! It was full of amazing acting, a great plot. The final showdown of Jack vs. Locke lived up to expectations and was just as well done as it was exciting. It was nice to see all of the characters that made the show such a phenomenal at the end altogether. It saddens me knowing that I will most likely never love a show as much as I love Lost but I’m glad that I got to experience something as epic as this show.

I love how open the mystery still is.. I was worried that the explanations would be silly or ridiculous, but this really gave the story gravity and the ability to spawn much more thought and exploration in themes for years to come.. a beautiful conclusion.

This show was about people who were “Lost” not on an island full of answers that demanded mysteries, but lost from the people they needed to be completed.

It has been great 6 years to experience what I call a masterpiece. This episode was symbolic and character-driven instead of answering questions as some expect it to. The real question is, “Why do we need answers?” There is no need to question everything in Lost, and I draw a comparison to life. The island is not much more bizarre than life. Life is a mystery and we are all lost in this life of ours. There are some things that happened because it happened, and we assume it’s true. Call it ignorance, but that’s what made this episode so blissful in a peaceful way.

The finale unraveled a story so complex, more analyzed than any other show on television, to the core of what it’s been since September 22, 2004, a story of two simple concepts what it means to be lost in this world and what it means to be found.

It was never about searching for the truth about the island. It was about the characters and their journey to personal enlightenment.

I will surely miss Lost. :)
