Video Thumbnails won’t load in Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx

May 3rd, 2010 1 comment

I have currently installed Lucid Lynx in my laptop’s system and this is the first bug I have seen, video thumbnails won’t load. All the thumbnails for images and PDF files are loading.

What I mean about the thumbnails are the screenshot preview of the video, not the generic thumbnail.

So, here are the necessary solutions I have found in the Internet:

  • Check Nautilus preference (open any directory) then go to Edit Menu, Preference, and then the Preview Tab. Now, you could modify the settings.

* Video thumbnails should be automatic if you have a default gnome install and your gstreamer supports the codecs of the video.

  • Next step would be deleting your cache for thumbnails. You could just point yourself to ~/.thumbnails or /home/username/.thumbnails delete its content, or maybe the directory itself (don’t worry, it would automatically created in the future as long as your file wants to load a thumbnails).
  • Last solution I found is checking your codecs. I tried installing mplayer and the ffmpeg
    • sudo apt-get install mplayer
    • sudo apt-get install ffmpeg

But here’s a package, which i think could help you to play restricted formats:

    • sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

UnPLUG’s Statement about Election Day Issues

February 24th, 2010 1 comment

“As you vote for less than 12 councilors only, tick that name and leave the others blank. Wag mag-aabstain, mavovoid votes niyo. Just let it be. Don’t tick abstain. May glitch ang system. Please pass.”

Passion! Persistence! Pizza!

I made this post because, last saturday after the kick-off party of Firefox @ 5 here in the Philippines, Randal, Rystraum, Kuya Mark, Kuya Wali, Aica and I thought about Kuya JM. Where is he right now? and as far as I could remember, logo for our UnPLUG was the last conversation I had with him. And second, Kuya Gerry is asking where he could find a logo for his AVP :)

So, where is Kuya JM?

unplug

*Hats-Off* to Kuya JM for our logo!

Ang source files ay makukuha rito:
http://groups.google.com/group/usapan/web/UnPLUG_Tuxblation-spiral_logo_seal.tar.gz

GPL/OFL-licensed fonts lang yung ginamit i.e. Linux Libertine (http://linuxlibertine.sourceforge.net/) at Jura (http://openfontlibrary.org/media/files/Daniel_J/359).

Here’s a link of the other proposed logo for our organization :)
